Ciocco Barocco Oct 28th to Nov. 1st 2011 (Chocolate Festival)
A yearly appointment that enhances the culture of Modica, a gem of late Sicilian Baroque a UNESCO World Heritage city, through the promotion of art and handcrafted products of the city, first of all the chocolate.
A weekend for all chocolate lovers who will have the opportunity to enjoy this good artisan chocolate, chocolate presented directly by the chocolate Masters , the real stars of this initiative, which directly tell to the general public the secrets of the production and processing of the chocolate of Modica's and its traditions.
This is a particular type of chocolate, cold worked, which it is still prepared in the same tradition from when the spanish governed Sicily,it is made in many variations: from the bitter to the vanilla, orange zest,carob bean, mandarin, cardamom, and chili pepper. This type of chocolate was known by the Spaniards from the Aztecs, it became part of cooking and preparations in Modica during the long Spanish domination of the island. The granular characteristic is typical of Modica's chocolate, now well known by many chocolate connoisseurs .
There are many stands where you can taste all kinds of ciocolato Modicano in many variations and recipes.
Every day from 10.30 am until 21.00 will be held several guided tours. Between Baroque and chocolate, edited by the Guides of the Province of Ragusa on foot, or by small train in the Baroque city center.
Ciocco Barocco is on every year in late October.
